Do you continue to fall short of your life and leadership potential could it be that you fail to unlock your inner capital. According to research, “self-inner capital” refers to the collection of personal, intangible assets within an individual, including their knowledge, skills, resilience, emotional intelligence, values, and sense of purpose, which contribute to their overall wellbeing and ability to navigate life challenges and achieve goals. It is the “inner strength” or potential that someone possesses within themselves, often considered beyond just material wealth or external achievements.

Your inner capital is that intangible nature that makes you unique and distinctive. It is your foundation in the grand scheme of life and leading. As a leader self-inner capital must be unlocked and launched to the world and those you lead. The aspect of values and a sense of purpose when it comes to self-inner capital. Self-inner capital is “self-value, also known as self-worth, it is the belief that you are worthy of respect, love, and well-being. It is an important part of your overall well-being and can affect your relationships, career, and mental health. If you have high self-value or self-worth then you will treat yourself with respect, care, and love. On the other end if you have low self-worth, then you will more than likely mistreat others. As a leader your treatment of others correlates with your self-worth. You may disagree but it is true that self-valued individuals treat others with respect, care, and love.

Self-inner capital is crucial for personal and professional growth, as it aids you in overcoming obstacles, adapting to change, and making positive decisions.

Components of self-inner capital:

  • Psychological resilience: Ability to bounce back from setbacks.
  • Emotional intelligence: Understanding and managing one’s own emotions.
  • Self-awareness: Knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Positive mindset: Optimistic outlook and belief in one’s capabilities.
  • Values and ethics: Guiding principles that drive behavior.

Growing up, my mother often shared with me and my siblings that we were loved. My parents shaped our inner capital, instilling in us that we could achieve greatness and that we had a purpose. Thus, as a leader self-inner capital is imperative as it is the catalyst to how you view yourself, and it is the foundation from which you lead and live.

How to develop self-inner capital:

  • Self-reflection: Regularly examining one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to identify areas for growth
  • Mindfulness practices: Meditation, deep breathing exercises to enhance self-awareness.
  • Continuous learning: Seeking new knowledge and skills to expand capabilities.
  • Positive relationships: Building supportive connections with others.
  • Goal setting: Establishing meaningful objectives and working towards them.

I encourage you to strengthen your self-inner capital as you lead and live so you can be the best version of who you were meant to be.
