“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” Mahatma Ghandi
It is the spirit of giving that makes that world a better place. As a leader, to break up your routine, find time to give back to others. This will give you a perspective on what matters most, it will cause you to think about the legacy you would like to leave. Giving back is a powerful way to create meaningful impact, strengthen communities, and align actions with core values. It inspires connection and demonstrates a commitment to making the world a better place. Here are three ways why giving back matters.
- Fill your cup: When you are filling low on energy and low in spirit. If you take time to give back to others it is an opportunity to fill your cup with something significant (meaningful). Feeling significant when giving back is valuable because it reinforces a sense of purpose, reminding us that our actions can create meaningful change. It deepens the connection to the cause, fueling motivation to continue contributing and inspiring others to do the same. As a leader, giving back matters as is your opportunity to fill your cup of significance. You are a person of significance!
- Making a Difference: Making a difference in the lives of others does matter. Making a difference matters because it gives your actions purpose, creating a positive impact that extends beyond you. As a leader when you give back it fosters connection that inspires others. Giving it back is the opportunity to contribute to building a better world where everyone can thrive, and you would be the one who has had a small role in making the world a better place.
- Setting an Example: As a leader when you take the time to give back it sets an example for your team/organization. Those you lead look to you as their example from an array of perspectives. When your team/organization sees that you are giving back it displays your humanity side. It is that side of you that will help them to connect with you from a personal perspective. Thus, determine a “cause” that matters to you and spend various times throughout the year supporting and giving back in a meaningful way.
In closing your life is one that matters and when you give back to a worthy cause you fill your cup of living a life of significance, you are making a difference in the lives of others, and you are setting an example for others to follow. When you give through volunteering (time to a worthy cause) it matters, and it makes an enormous difference because of your influence and impact. Therefore, giving back matters because you matter!
